We're just walking the dogs so we can help cats

Staff at West Mount Vets have raised more than £300 for a cat rehoming charity by taking part in a sponsored walk.

Colleagues from the group's surgeries in Todmorden and Mytholmroyd jointed forces to complete the 10-mile Goggies for Moggies walk along the Rochdale canal in Todmorden and the surrounding hills.

Organisers Margaret Stansfield and Rowena Hudson joined forces to plan the fundraising event to help Haworth Cat Rescue achieve its £500,000 target to build a permanent, visible centre to cover the wide area it serves.

Rowena said: "Everyone really got behind the idea of supporting the work of Haworth at Rescue because we have all seen firsthand the care given to the cats when they are bought to us for neutering and medical treatment.

"Although we work in different branches we all live in Todmorden and Hebden Bridge, so it was only natural we chose to congregate at West Mount Vets in Todmorden."

Margaret said: "The weather was miserable but all of us had a great time and are now planning to do the same thing again next year.

"I'm so pleased that we have been able to give back something to a very worthwhile local group dedicated to improving animal welfare through its rehoming of unwanted and abandoned cats."
