Pet Insurance and West Mount Vets

Pet Insurance now falls under the regulation of the Financial Services Authority. This is good news for you as clients as it means the insurance you are buying for your pet is subject to the same regulations as your life insurance or private health insurance.

However, with this change comes certain restrictions which are placed upon veterinary practices when dealing with insurance claims.

Please note under the new regulations we can do the following:

• Introduce the idea of pet insurance to clients
• Display and give out promotional material on pet insurance
• Make direct claims on behalf of the client so that your insurance company pay us instead of you.

But we cannot do the following

• Help clients complete applications or their part of the claim form
• Pass on client details to the insurance company
• Give advice on, or recommend, a specific pet insurance policy
• Hold or collect premiums on behalf of the insurance company
• Sell pet insurance

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but we are bound by the Terms of Business of the insurance companies and the FSA regulations.
