Press Release 29 May 2006 - Taken from Halifax Evening
Courier
A Halifax vet is hoping to
have a more active role in the profession she loves after being appointed
to the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.
Clare Tapsfield-Wright, a co-director of West Mount Veterinary Health
Centre on Pellon Lane, will take up the prestigous four-year post on the
Royal College's council in September.
She was nominated by her business partner Richard Holborow and voted
for by fellow vets.
As a member of the regulatory body, she will sit on various committees
concerned with education, ethical issues and clinical standards. The Royal
College exists to safeguard the health and welfare of animals and to act
as an impartial source.
"I was really surprised to be elected" said Clare, 49.
"There are many academics on the council, but not many veterinary
surgeons who are practising. I am looking forward to it.
"I felt that when I volunteered I would be a counter-balance to
some of the academics.
"The Royal College is there to benefit the public and the welfare
of animals.
"Since I was little I wanted to be a vet. It's lovely when someone
brings a puppy in, although it can be heartbreaking at times."
Clare lives in Hebden Bridge with her husband and two children.
